Now here is a guitar I didn't even know existed! Until I purchased this guitar, I had assumed all Sigma guitars were made in Japan (or subsequently in other Asian countries) and then 'finished' in the USA factory.

However, in 1981-82, Martin produced a small number of models labelled "MartinSigma / USA" and designated by an "N" at the end of the model name: These were made in the Martin factory in Nazareth, PA. This guitar is a DR-28N - essentially a D-28 'copy' - and is clearly made in the USA (see the detailed pictures in the 'more pictures' link below).

It has a high-quality solid Spruce top, with Indian Rosewood back and sides. The lovely fretboard on the Mahogany neck appears to be Brazilian Rosewood (it is extremely dark, but I don't think it is Ebony, while the bridge is either Brazilian Rosewood or Ebony. This rare Martin variation is factory-fitted with a Martin Thinline pickup system, and comes with a good quality hard shell case which I assume is original.

The guitar has obviously been a player, not just an 'under-the-bed' guitar, but it has also been very well cared for. The top shows very minor signs of strumming wear, while the back and neck also show some handling wear, but the guitar is remarkable devoid of knocks, scratches and scrapes that many guitars show. The original frets could possibly do with a light dressing, but it is perfectly OK as is.

It sounds fantastic, with a deep and quite loud presence, but with great clarity. Neck set is perfect, with the action being 3.5mm on the bass side and 2.5mm on the treble side. Neck is gunbarrel straight.

This is a totally no-issues guitar, made in the USA, a very rare model, and now more than 25 years old. It's a perfect guitar to use either acoustically or amplified, and is bound to be a great investment over time.

Comes with its original HSC, and dimensions and weight in its case are 113cm x 47cm x 16cm and 6.25kg - shipping dimensions and weights will be slightly higher.
