| This vintage tuned bass-reflex (ported) speaker box dates from 1965, and is fitted with a beautiful Alnico Rola 12UX 15 ohm 12" speaker. It is almost certainly Melbourne-made, and the grille cloth and handles are exactly the same as those used on Goldentones at the time (see amps with this cloth we have sold here, here, here and and there's a Melbourne-made Eminar here, and there are plenty more!) This vintage speaker is the earliest pole-mountable PA style speaker I have seen. Note the very heavy-duty chromed cast fitting in the bottom of the cabinet (you can see the interior in the 'more pictures' link below). The Rola 12UX (X denotes twin-cone) was the top model Rola at the time, with the heaviest magnet, most concentrated magnetic flux (which translates to efficiency), and widest frequency response (30Hz-14kHz + 6dB in the Rola-designed enclosure), and the highest power handling capacity, at 30 watts peak. It was also the heaviest Rola speaker, weighing 7lb 10 3/4 oz. (the 12PX twin-cone weighed just 3lb 7 1/2oz by comparison). So it's a great vintage speaker cab for use with low-powered valve amps (30 watts or less) with a 16 ohm output. It's also quite compact, measuring just 62cm x 45cm x 26cm and it weighs 13.5 kg. Shipped dimensions and weight will be slightly higher.
